New Sainik Schools 2026

In recent years, many parents have been looking beyond conventional schooling and exploring institutions that focus not only on academics, but also on discipline, leadership, and national service. To meet this growing demand, the Government of India launched an ambitious initiative to expand the Sainik school ecosystem through Private Sainik Schools, officially known as New Sainik Schools.

By 2026, this initiative is expected to gain strong momentum, with more than 40 private institutions already approved, and a target of establishing 100 New Sainik Schools across the country. These schools operate in partnership with private trusts, NGOs, and state governments, while maintaining the core ethics of traditional Sainik Schools.

What Are Private Sainik Schools (New Sainik Schools)?

Unlike traditional Sainik Schools, which are fully residential and government-run, private Sainik Schools offer more flexibility. Depending on the institution, they may operate as residential, day-boarding, or day schools, making them accessible to a wider range of families.

All New Sainik Schools function under the supervision of the Sainik Schools Society (SSS), which comes under the Ministry of Defence. This ensures that standards of training, discipline, and overall structure remain consistent with the Sainik School vision.

Curriculum, Discipline & Training Structure in New Sainik Schools

One of the strongest features of New Sainik Schools is their Academic PLUS curriculum. While academics remain central, equal importance is given to physical fitness, leadership training, and character development.

Most private Sainik Schools follow the CBSE Curriculum, though some may be affiliated with other recognised state or central boards. Regardless of the board, every school must implement Sainik School style “PLUS” training, which includes:

  • Mandatory NCC training
  • Structured physical fitness routines
  • Adventure activities and outdoor learning
  • A disciplined, military-inspired daily schedule

The balanced approach helps children grow into confident, responsible, and resilient individuals. Qualities essential not only for defence careers but for life in general.

Admission Process, Eligibility, Fees & Scholarships for Private Sainik Schools

Admission to both traditional and Private Sainik Schools is conducted through the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE), organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The eligibility criteria for AISSEE

For class 6th age must be 10 to 12 years old, and for the session 2026-27, students born between 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2017.

For class 9th age must be 13 to 15 years, and for the session 2026-27, students born between 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2014.

Fee structure and Scholarships

Unlike government Sainik Schools, Private Sainik Schools set their own fee structures. As of 2016, annual fees typically range between 1.3 lakh to 1.9 lakh, depending on facilities, boarding type, and location. Some institutions may go slightly above this range.

The official and updated list is available on the AISSEE NTA portal and the Sainik Schools Society’s New Schools Page.

Private Sainik Schools combine structured discipline with modern education, offering children a strong foundation for defence careers as well as civilian professions. With flexible schooling models, national-level entrance exams, and government-backed scholarships, they have become a powerful alternative to traditional schooling.
